Searching for Deep Molecules

To supplement the Sgr B2(M) spectral scans we plan deep, targeted observations toward Sgr B2(S), complemented by a full range PACS scan. Source S in the Sgr B2 cloud is a continuum peak where the line confusion is not as high as in (M) and (N). Strip scans of HF and HCl are included to help in this study. These two molecules are of particular interest, as they are major reservoirs and measurements of their abundances are valuable probes of depletion. These data will be obtained using the HIFI partial scan mode; DBS deep integrations, and DBS mapping; along with PACS range spectroscopy in SED red and blue wavelength ranges. Paul Goldsmith is the coordinator for the HIFI portion of this subprogram, with Jose Cernicharo the coordinator for PACS scans.
