Orion S—HIFI/PACS Line Survey

To contrast with the high-excitation Orion KL source, we will observe Orion S, a nearby high-mass star formation region with a more quiescent nature. Orion S has an infrared luminosity that is more than an order of magnitude below that of the KL cluster. Perhaps as a result of this difference the spectrum of this object should exhibit less line confusion. We plan complete scans of the HIFI bands (using frequency switching) and also PACS range spectroscopy in SED red and blue wavelength ranges. Rene Plume is the coordinator for the HIFI portion of this subprogram, with Jose Cernicharo the coordinator for PACS scans.
